MERLE HAGGARD INTERVIEWED ON NPR'S ALL THINGS CONSIDERED.
All Things Considered, January 3, 2008 - Merle Haggard has been churning out albums for nearly 40 years, fashioning a career as an iconoclastic country-music legend and scoring dozens of hits including that slap at the hippie generation, "Okie from Muskogee ." Now 70, "The Hag" has just made a foray into bluegrass: The Bluegrass Sessions features revamped versions of songs both old and new.
One of the new tracks, "Learning to Live with Myself," was written in his bathtub or at least, according to Haggard, "There was water everywhere."
"At my age, I've learned how to live with my spouse and I've learned how to live with my beautiful children," Haggard says. "I learned how to be friends with everybody and do everything. The only thing I hadn't learned how to do was to learn to live with myself. I think that's probably the hardest thing we all have to do. We can lie to everybody else, but you can't lie to yourself."
NEW YEARS EVE 2007 AT THE RYMAN
What a great night of music we all experienced on New Years Eve. Del and the boys showed they can rock and roll with the best of them, plugging in and bringing in Vince and Drew from Leftover Salmon and Jon Fishman from Phish for a really fun evening, not to mention an unbelievable acoustic set. The band would like to thank all of their friends who came out and shared the stage with them including the above mentioned Vince, Drew, and Jon, as well as the Steep Canyon Rangers, Ronnie Bowman, and Ronnie Reno.
There have been many great comments from fans about their experience, so wed like any fans who attended the show to send us your review of the show, or a note explaining what the show meant to you. Send your best photos to firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll post them on the site! Also, dont forget to visit www.delmccouryband.com and check out the store. The new t-shirts will be added in the coming weeks.
